Metro adding lights at some bus stops to help rail riders catch their bus

Metro is testing a new system they say will help rail riders catch their connecting bus a little easier.New strobing bus transfer lights at some bus stops located outside of Metrorail stations will alert operators when a train is approaching the station during off-peak hours so they can delay the bus by up to five minutes, giving people exiting the train a little more time to catch their bus connection.Metro said in a news release that the bus transfer lights are going to be near bus stops that serve lower-frequency routes, “where missing a bus by a few minutes may delay an important trip by 30 minutes to an hour.”The goal is to reduce bus waiting times, especially at night. The daily off-peak hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The new bus signal testing began on Saturday at the Greenbelt station where the light signal alerts bus operators on the C2 route of trains approaching near the time their bus is scheduled to depart the station.SourceKnizner activated from injured list by Cardinals, who option Baker to Memphis

CINCINNATI (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez had surgery on his left ring finger after injuring himself during pregame warmups and will miss an additional four weeks. Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Tellez was shagging fly balls in the outfield Saturday and got his finger stuck in the padding of the center field wall. Tellez tore his fingernail off and had to undergo surgery to insert 17 stitches and repair a small fracture on the end of the finger. He had been on track to return Tuesday in Philadelphia. “It was a freak accident,” Counsell said Sunday. “Wasn’t sprinting, wasn’t going at a high speed, believe me. I actually saw it. Looked like a very innocent thing. Probably means we won’t see him back with us for four weeks.” Tellez isn’t expected to resume baseball activity for two-to-three weeks. He has been on the injured list since July 5 with right forearm inflammation.Tellez is hitting .213 with 12 homers and 36 RBIs. (CNN) — World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz beat reigning champion Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-set men’s final on Sunday to win his first Wimbledon title. The Spaniard prevailed after nearly five hours on Centre Court, eventually winning 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4, and jubilantly fell onto the grass in celebration before volleying a tennis ball into the crowd. The 20-year-old becomes the third-youngest Wimbledon champion in the Open Era and adds a second major title to his resume after winning the US Open last year.Through his extraordinary display of athleticism and skill, Alcaraz prevented Djokovic from leveling Margaret Court for the most grand slam singles titles of all time and Roger Federer on eight for the most Wimbledon men’s singles titles. But it was anything but straightforward for Alcaraz, who came from a set down against arguably the greatest tennis player in history performing at the peak of his powers. In the end, as Djokovic’s attempted forehand failed to make it over the n...Coulombe retires Arraez for final out as the Orioles top the Marlins 5-4 for their 8th straight win

(CNN) — A storm moving through the Northeast is threatening more than 40 million people with excessive rainfall and has already caused flooding that led to at least four deaths in Pennsylvania.Weather conditions in New York are unstable, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul told reporters Sunday, warning the state could see record rainfall levels. She pleaded with residents to avoid unnecessary travel.“A flash flood doesn’t give you warning. It comes literally in a flash,” Hochul said. “And in those moments, your car can go from a place of safety to a place of death.”The power is out in about 9,300 homes, mainly in Dutchess and Sullivan Counties, Hochul said, noting utility workers are trying to restore power.“If you’re one of those 9,300 families without your power, it is a frightening time,” she said.More than 5 million people in Southern Connecticut and Southeastern New York, including most of New York City, were under a flash flood warning until 4 p.m. ET., according to the National Weath...Latest news
