DMV program helps formerly incarcerated obtain non-driver IDs

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles issued over 300 non-driver IDs (NDID) Wednesday to people formerly in Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) custody. This comes as part of the DOCCS Pre-Release NDID pilot program in tandem with Gov. Hochul's "jails to jobs" initiative, looking to break down barriers that affect formerly incarcerated individuals seeking employment. DOCCS' Pre-Release NDID pilot program began in April 2022 at the Wyoming Correctional Facility, the Taconic Correctional Facility, and Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. Since its expansion, the DMV has received applications from 18 facilities. (NEWS10) -- Troy’s code enforcement officers back again at Harbour Point Gardens on Tuesday declaring another 10 units are fit for people to live in.While dozens more residents continue camping out at a motel, the process to make fixes still drags on since city hall confirms paperwork promised by July 21 had not been fully submitted."That permit application, we have received some of it. It looks like they snail mailed parts of it," says Frank Sainato, on behalf of Mayor Patrick Madden.By 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sainato confirms the code enforcement department did receive the rest of the application and had begun the review process. EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. - The Major Case Squad is asking for help with finding a man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting Tuesday morning at an Illinois MetroLink station. Investigators have not identified the man wanted.The shooting occurred just before 5:30 a.m., following an altercation between two individuals at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Station. The shooter ran from the station while the victim stayed on the train until the Washington Park station. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A homicide investigation is underway after a woman was fatally shot Tuesday evening in north St. Louis County. The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 10000 block of Ashbrook Drive in the city of Bellefontaine Neighbors. Stay of execution granted for Johnny Johnson Investigators say a woman was found inside a home with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital, but later died from her injuries.Police believe the victim knew the gunman and that an altercation happened before the shooting. GREELEY — A Colorado police officer on trial for putting a handcuffed woman in a parked police vehicle that was hit by a freight train testified Tuesday that she did not realize the officer who had arrived before her had parked it on the tracks.After racing to the scene, Officer Jordan Steinke said, she quickly parked her patrol vehicle behind the other one and got out because it was the quickest way “to get a gun in the fight” — hers. She explained that she was surprised the other officer was still sitting in his vehicle.Steinke also said she did not notice the tracks or the ground when she squatted down to arrest a kneeling Yareni Rios-Gonzalez after the suspect was ordered out of her pickup truck. A local developer’s 11th-hour attempt to derail Costco’s plans to build in Brentwood fell on deaf ears Tuesday, with the City Council unanimously upholding the Planning Commission’s earlier approvals for the project.Though the commission on June 20 gave the green light for the proposed new store south of Lone Tree Plaza and east of Heidorn Ranch Road, West Coast Home Builders, an Albert D.
