For years, doctors believed Blessing Amuga, 16, suffered from keratoconus, a condition in which the cornea of the eye becomes thinner and takes the shape of a cone. The condition leads to a person being very light sensitive.“It’s very painful when it (light) goes into my eyes, it’s really hard for me to read,” Amuga said. Her education is important to her, but for this 11th grader, the condition has made it difficult for her to do required reading because she has to take frequent breaks to keep the pain and headaches at bay.Her mother, Mercy Amuga, said the migraines that come with the condition can be debilitating and have resulted in several emergency room visits for the young girl.“The headache affects her so that she can’t do anything, and she becomes numb,” her mother said.Treatment involves expensive surgery on each eye. Living at a homeless shelter, Blessing’s mother said they needed a miracle to get her the surgery. That miracle came from a Loudoun Coun...Rivers helps No. 5 North Carolina State beat Vanderbilt 70-62

LONDON — She might have crashed Britain. But can she save the world?Former U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss landed in Washington this week to drum up support for Ukraine among skeptical Republican lawmakers. On both sides of the Atlantic there are hopes Truss can help steer the debate on the American right away from isolationism and toward the active international role espoused by both U.K. prime minister Rishi Sunak and U.S. President Joe Biden. Truss — no fan of either man — makes for an unlikely diplomatic superhero. The trip comes barely a year after her humiliating resignation ended a disastrous tenure as Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister. Since the end of her 49-day stint in Downing Street, Truss has tried to carve out a place for herself as a champion of right-wing policies around the world. She is in Washington this week as part of a delegation of the Conservative Friends of Ukraine (CFU), alongside fellow former Tory leaders Iain Duncan Smith and Michae...Police: Dozens of packages swiped from Roxbury apartment building

It just happened so fast that I couldn’t stop in time, and I rear-ended a pickup truck. There wasn’t a dent on his car but totaled mine,” Jillian said. Her insurance company paid the claim and sent her a payment link through Venmo to get $5100.“All I did was touch it, and assuming it was going to prompt me for like verification, phone number anything, but it didn’t.
