“Now is the winter of our discount tents.” — sign at a camping-supply store during the off-season.There was much discontentedness (discontention?) after today’s deal. Against 3NT, West led a low spade. Dummy’s jack won, but declarer looked in vain for a way to use the long diamonds. He let the queen of clubs ride at Trick Two, then led a heart to his queen. He cashed his high diamonds, the ace of hearts and ace of clubs, shrugged and led a third heart. I sold my old house and am buying a small place in a very sunny popular tourist town I’ve always loved. My friends have been congratulatory and supportive, including the two women who have been brushing me off. They’ve both reached out (separately — they’re not friends with one another) with sincere questions about when I can host them and their families for a visit.Amy, ...
