CHICAGO — A fire broke out at an over-a-century-old church in the East Side neighborhood overnight.The fire erupted at the Advocate United Church of Crist located on 103rd and Avenue L around 4 a.m. No one was in the building and no injuries were reported.Neighbors told WGN the noise woke them up and looked outside to see flames shooting out of the over 100-year-old church. ‘It’s just so senseless:’ Friend remembers man killed in attempted armed robbery in Humboldt Park Nearby residents of the church were ordered to evacuate, and the church pastor said when firefighters got there a brush of flames erupted upon opening the door. COOK COUNTY, Ill. — An Arlington Heights woman accused of setting her own apartment on fire has been charged, police say.According to Arlington Heights police, the fire started in 51-year-old Paula Cristina Sanchez's apartment in the 300 block of East Seegers Road on Thursday afternoon.Following the fire, investigators say evidence was recovered from the scene that indicated Sanchez had intentionally started the blaze. Security guard hospitalized after shooting in Grand Crossing Village inspectors deemed four nearby units uninhabitable due to damage from the fire, smoke and water.Sanchez has been charged with one count of aggravated arson. CHICAGO — An investigation is underway on Saturday night after a shooting outside of a funeral home on the city's Southwest Side, police say.According to Chicago police, two people were injured in the shooting, which happened around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in the 5100 block of South Western Avenue in Gage Park. 8-year-old boy killed, woman injured after stabbing in Plainfield Township Officers say a 32-year-old man was shot in the arm and was taken to the hospital in fair condition. The second victim, a 72-year-old woman, suffered gunshot wounds to the leg, arm and side of her body. But the document marks the beginning of the end of a sometimes contentious three-year process that could result in major changes to the way Minnesota students learn social studies.If approved, the proposed changes will incorporate ethnic studies into state social studies standards for the first time. Those standards would go into effect in the 2026–27 school year.Minnesota law requires the revision of academic standards every 10 years. ST. LOUIS - Two people were shot and one has died after a shooting Saturday evening in St. Louis' Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood. The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Gamble Street. Investigators say a 23-year-old man was fatally shot.
