Rescue crews in helicopters and boats ferried hundreds of people from inundated villages to safety.Flooding triggered by rainstorms also hit neighboring Bulgaria and Turkey, killing a total of 22 people in all three countries since the rains began Tuesday.In Greece, the rainstorms turned streams into raging torrents that burst dams, washed away roads and bridges and hurled cars into the sea. San Mateo hit-and-run driver arrested (KRON) -- A driver who police say hit a pedestrian and then fled the scene Thursday has been arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run, according to the San Mateo Police Department. Officers received a report at around 4:57 p.m. regarding a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East Hillsdale Boulevard and Curtiss Street.Officers arrived at the scene and located the victim, a 41-year-old man, who had sustained multiple injuries. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene in a white Toyota Tacoma, police said. The $49-million settlement is the result of undercover inspections conducted by Alameda, San Francisco, and San Mateo district attorneys' offices focused on dumpsters located at Kaiser facilities. During the undercover inspections, district attorney investigators dug into unsecured dumpsters destined for disposal at publicly accessible landfills. Petaluma suspected drunk driver arrested after car crash Friday night (BCN)--Petaluma officers arrested a suspected drunk driver after a car crash occurred in the city Thursday night, according to police.
