The Mike Babcock era with the Columbus Blue Jackets ended before it ever really began and his signing can officially be declared a failed endeavour from top to bottom.“We went through a process earlier this summer prior to hiring Mike Babcock as our head coach, but we got it wrong and that’s on us,” Blue Jackets president of hockey operations John Davidson said at a press conference Monday afternoon less than 24 hours after the team and Babcock parted ways on the cusp of the 2023-24 NHL season.Babcock resigned as the team’s head coach Sunday, less than three months after being hired and mere days after allegations surfaced that he had been asking to see photos on players’ smartphones while getting to know them, which resulted in some players reportedly feeling uncomfortable.Although multiple Blue Jackets players such as captain Boone Jenner and star forward Johnny Gaudreau made public comments downplaying how Babcock’s get-to-know-you methods were...An airstrike on a military airport in northern Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region kills 3 people

IRBIL, Iraq (AP) — An airstrike on a military airport in northern Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region killed three people Monday, local officials said. The region’s counter-terrorism service said in a statement that the attack on the Arbat Airport, 28 kilometers southeast of the city of Suleimaniyah killed three of its personnel and injured three members of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces. The airport had recently undergone rehabilitation to facilitate the training of anti-terror units affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, one of the two often-competing main parties in the region, whose seat of power is in Sulaymaniyah. The counter-terrorism service did not blame the attack on any party, but the Sulaymaniyah governorate in a statement urged “countries in the region to respect the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” implying that the strike was carried out by Turkey. Also on Monday, the Kurdistan National Congress, an umbrella organization of Kurdish groups and part...Two migrant shelters set to open in Near West Side by Friday

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — It wasn't an escapee from the Country Bear Jamboree attraction, but a wild black bear managed to be the star of its own show Monday at Walt Disney World. The presence of the black bear in a tree in the Magic Kingdom delayed the opening of three lands Monday morning — Frontierland, Liberty Square and Adventureland.Staffers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were at the park, attempting to capture and relocate the bear, Disney World said in a statement. The bear was eventually captured Monday afternoon. The bear was likely in search of food as it looks to pack on fat reserves for the winter, the wildlife commission said in a statement.“In most cases, it is best for bears to be given space and to move along on their own, but given this situation, staff are working on capturing and relocating the bear,” the wildlife commission said. The wildlife commission estimates there are more than 4,000 black bears in Florida, with the most located in centr...Musk: X, formerly Twitter, 'moving toward' monthly fee

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- People "overwhelmingly" want to see more affordable housing - with the priority given to people working in the healthcare, hospitality and service industries, according to a community impact survey referenced in a new City of Austin memo. In response, the City Manager's Office had made an official recommended to convert at least part of the former HealthSouth property into affordable housing. The land is on the corner of Red River and 12th Streets, walking distance from Dell Seton and the heart of downtown. This is rooted in the Austin City Council's priority for "mixed-income housing affordable to households at or below 60% Median Family Income," according to the memo. Below are the results from a survey of 396 people, where city staff asked "What three community uses would you be excited to see on this site?"Current market conditions present unique challenges to the immediate redevelopment of the site," the memo reads.
