Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 06:11:45 GMT

The start to the third inning Tuesday was one that could have spiraled on Dean Kremer. After two no-hit innings, the Orioles’ starting pitcher allowed a leadoff single. Then a two-base throwing error by third baseman Gunnar Henderson put runners on second and third with no outs against the top of the Washington Nationals’ batting order. In need of swings and misses, Kremer didn’t turn to his curveball, his changeup or his new sweeper. Instead, the right-hander turned up the dial on his fastball, throwing 14 straight four-seamers and sinkers to strike out the side.Kremer didn’t allow another runner to get into scoring position as he continued his fastball-heavy approach, pitching 6 2/3 shutout innings in the Orioles’ 1-0 win over the host Nationals.Kremer (1-0) scattered four hits and struck out a season-high six batters — just two fewer punchouts than he recorded in his first 12 1/3 innings. Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 06:11:45 GMT

For the first six minutes on Tuesday night, the Celtics were playing at their worst. They were lazy on offense. Jaylen Brown committed three turnovers in the opening minutes. Their defense – which was so good in Game 1 – was an open door. The Celtics were expecting a strong Hawks response and they got it.But when Joe Mazzulla turned to his bench, everything changed. The deepest team in the NBA showed itself again, even if Mazzulla has only gone eight deep to start the playoffs. Robert Williams, then Malcolm Brogdon entered the game and the Celtics went off and running. After falling behind early, the Celtics ripped off a huge first-half run and never looked back as they took complete control of their first-round series with a 119-106 Game 2 victory.Jayson Tatum scored 29 points – including five 3-pointers – and some big buckets down the stretch as the Celtics held off several rallies from Dejounte Murray and the Hawks. It was his supporting cast that spurred the C’s to a commanding 2...
