A Prince George’s County, Maryland, man was arrested and charged in connection with two bank robberies in Alexandria, Virginia.Police said 27-year-old Jaquan Royal was charged with two counts of bank robbery — one in the 3500 block of Mount Vernon Avenue on March 23, and another in the 400 block of John Carlyle Street on April 3.No injuries were reported from either robbery, police said.Royal is being held at an adult detention center.In a release, Alexandria police said anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call 703-746-6699 or the nonemergency number at 703-746-4444.SourceFirst African American mother, daughter graduate from US Naval Academy in Annapolis

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that happened late Sunday evening.The crash was reported before 11:30 p.m. at southbound Interstate 25 and Yale Avenue. (CNN) — Egypt has announced the discovery of two of the largest workshops ever used to mummify human and animal corpses in ancient times.Two workshops and two tombs were discovered in Saqqara, a vast Pharaonic necropolis south of Cairo, according to Mostafa Waziri, the secretary-general of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.“Today, we announce the discovery of the two biggest mummification workshops for humans and animals at the Saqqara Necropolis. DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — One person was found overnight at the site of a collapsed apartment building in Iowa, bringing the total number of people rescued to eight, authorities said Monday.Davenport Fire Chief Michael Carlsten said at a news conference Monday that it was unclear if anyone was still missing after part of the six-story complex crashed to the ground in the eastern Iowa city. No deaths have been reported.“No known individuals are trapped in that facility,” Carlsten said. HALIFAX — A wildfire that has damaged or destroyed dozens of homes in suburban Halifax is still burning out of control because of gusty winds and dry conditions.Halifax deputy fire Chief David Meldrum says an estimated 14,000 people were forced to flee their homes after the rapidly spreading fire broke out Sunday afternoon in Tantallon, a 30-minute drive northwest of downtown Halifax.Meldrum says the wind shifted directions overnight and is now coming from the northwest, which means the fire is blowing back on itself and could set new fires in the large subdivisions on the outskirts of the city.With no rain in the forecast, Meldrum says it could take the rest of the week to subdue the fire.He says about 100 firefighters are doing their best to contain the fire, and he says two helicopters from the Department of Natural Resources will be joined today by two water bombers from Newfoundland and Labrador.The size of the fire remains unclear and Meldrum says emergency officials are still...Latest news
