Leão outshines ‘Kvara’ in matchup of standout wingers in CL NAPLES, Italy (AP) — Rafael Leão isn’t quite ready to relinquish his slalom title to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. It was the Portuguese winger — not the Georgian dribbling wonder — who was more successful at weaving his way around defenders in their three-week showdown, as Leão carried AC Milan past Napoli and “Kvara” into the Champions League semifinals after also helping rout the runaway Serie A leader 4-0 in the Italian league.“We’re enjoying everything about Leão,” Milan coach Stefano Pioli said after a 1-1 draw in the second leg on Tuesday enabled the Rossoneri to advance on 2-1 aggregate. “Today we asked him to help out more defensively and he did it. Rafa is becoming a champion and that’s what he’ll become. It’s up to him, because for someone with that much talent and skill, both technically and physically, it’s just a matter of how much effort he puts in.”The decisive goal of the Champions League series came when Leão took the ball from Milan’s own half and slalomed his way through...

Residents concerned about eroding stretch of US 285 JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Residents near the town of Conifer are concerned about a stretch of U.S. 285, which they say looks to be eroding. The area in question is a northbound stretch, near mile marker 231 on the shoulder. Resident Mike Butterfield, who runs Red Hawk Ranch, said he’s been complaining to the Colorado Department of Transportation since September 2021. “This is a undercut of the highway, so water’s coming down and just washing out underneath the highway," Butterfield said. Federal judge halts Colorado ban on ‘abortion pill reversal’ Late Tuesday, Matt Inzeo, CDOT's communications director, said a curb edge of the road is, indeed, missing. He said infill and loads of rock will be needed to “build the area back up.” Weather permitting, that process could begin as early as Wednesday. That's good news for Mike Butterfield and others. “It’s all about the safety of the people that drive the highway,” he said.

Time to reform UK lawmakers’ trough feeding

Time to reform UK lawmakers’ trough feeding James Snell is a senior adviser at the New Lines Institute. He is writing a book on the war on Afghanistan. The trading of influence for money is everywhere — and Britain is not immune.Or so the anti-Brexit campaigning group Led by Donkeys found. They set up a fake Korean company, threw together a website and went on a fishing expedition. In so doing, the activists managed to snare some British politicians touting for extracurricular work.It was a fairly cheap sting operation, although the numbers involved were quite large.Four members of parliament bit the hook: Former minister Stephen Hammond, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng and former minister-turned-game-show-contestant Matt Hancock — who were filmed in Zoom meetings, asking for fees of £10,000 per day to consult — as well as Sir Graham Brady, the chair of the Conservative Party’s backbench 1922 Committee, who asked for a comparatively small wage packet of £6,000 per day. They all say they did everything by the b...

Will Ursula von der Leyen run again? Germany hopes so. BRUSSELS — Ursula von der Leyen insists she has not yet decided whether to run for a second term atop the EU’s executive. Germany isn’t waiting — it wants her. With speculation mounting ahead of the 2024 EU elections, Berlin is coming around to the thinking that having a German like von der Leyen on the other end of the phone is worthwhile — even if von der Leyen comes from the other side of the political tracks as Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s three-party coalition government.Germany’s backing is critical to whether von der Leyen can remain in power. She’ll need the current government to nominate her as the country’s representative on the European Commission before she can continue her reign. And, as the EU’s biggest country, Germany always carries significant weight over who gets the top jobs in Brussels. It’s a judgment that will have sweeping ramifications for Europe — and the world. Von der Leyen has become the EU’s most prominent figure during her term, harvesting more powers for her...
