ST. LOUIS – A man pled guilty to second degree murder for a killing in a Taco Bell parking lot near Downtown St. Louis. Jamar Burns, 32, will be serving up to 15 years for the death of Darrion Powell.Surveillance video captured the shooting at the Taco Bell on Chouteau Avenue on May 21, 2020. Burns shot Powell and told someone else to take marijuana from him. St. Louis police won’t respond in person to car break-ins A plea deal reduced the murder charges from the first to the second degree. Three other counts were dismissed as a part of the agreement. Burns will have to serve 85 percent of his 15-year sentence. He will get credit for more than three years of jail time served.Burns apologized to Powell’s family in court Wednesday. ST. LOUIS - A man is behind bars in connection with a woman's stabbing death earlier this week in the West End neighborhood. Prosecutors have charged Booker Boyd, 52, with one count of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the investigation. He is jailed in St. Louis City without bond. St. Louis police won’t respond in person to car break-ins The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reports the stabbing happened around 3 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Goodfellow Boulevard. When police responded to a call for assistance, they found a 33-year-old woman unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to a hospital and later pronounced deceased. Boyd was taken into custody a short distance away from the scene of the stabbing. A former Rocky Ford police officer was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing handguns taken as evidence in two separate incidents.George Ibarra, 41, was arrested on suspicion of tampering with evidence, official misconduct and theft, according to a Colorado Bureau of Investigation press release sent Wednesday morning. Ibarra left the agency in September 2022. The agency’s new chief, Sean McDonagh, said he didn’t know the circumstances of Ibarra’s departure but that he had been employed with the department for two years.Ibarra is accused of taking two handguns and a backpack containing ammunition, a holster, gun parts, a videogame and a bag of prescription pills from a suspect’s car during a domestic violence call in June 2022, according to an affidavit released by the 16th Judicial District. Josef Steele has a bullet wound in his back, an injury he suffered while shielding his sister from gunfire on Monday inside the tent they shared in the homeless encampment near the corner of East 18th Avenue and Logan Street east of downtown Denver.“My training saved me and my sister,” said Steele, 28, an Army veteran who has been unhoused on the streets of Denver for the last two years. “It hit me in the back and it felt like a whole lot of force in a really small area. A woman was rescued after falling off a cliff in Palos Verdes Estates on Wednesday.The incident was reported around 11:50 a.m. near Paseo Del Mar and Palos Verdes Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.The victim apparently fell 40 to 50 feet off a cliff. A member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Special Enforcement Bureau has been charged for trying to cover up another deputy's DUI, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.Gregory Davis, 54, faces five counts related to the alleged DUI of Carlos Lopez last year, Gascón's office said in a news release.
