Letters: Death threats to Trump and his son are as un-American as you can get

Threats are un-American actsRe: “Woman arrested on charges of emailing threats to shoot Trump and his son,” Aug. 22 news storyIt is appalling to me that people who call themselves American will send death threats to their fellow Americans because of their political views.People who will do that are definitely not patriotic Americans. They do not understand the meaning of the word and are unworthy of the name. They don’t know the history and the principles of our founding.James T Watson, Highlands RanchSpreading dangerous adviceIf this 82-year-old had taken the advice of a certain Colorado congresswoman, most likely I would not be alive to write this as hard as it is to see and write this letter. Telling folks not to get vaccinated or use masks kills — one way to get away with murder, in my opinion.I managed recently to run a 5K race in Evergreen. We had one friend fly in to run from out of state. It was wonderful to see her again and we carpooled to the race....Frontier Airlines sweepstakes will match student debt balance with free airline miles

Works To Recover From Tropical Storm Hilary

While the city of Los Angeles managed to avoid the center of Tropical Storm Hilary, its impacts lead to recovery efforts from flooding, mudslides and downed power lines.Hurricane Hilary made its way through Southern California as a tropical storm, bringing continuous rain and strong winds with it.By Sunday morning, the storm’s path shifted slightly east, causing its center to avoid the city of L.A, although much of the southland still felt the storm.Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass gave continuous updates throughout the weekend, alerting residents of available city resources as she activated Level 3 of the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Bass also declared a state of emergency before the storm’s arrival, opening up city resources to immediately respond to issues connected to the storm. The mayor’s office said it has been working on more than 1,700 calls for pothole repairs, mudflows, and fallen trees and powerlines.“I want to thank the city family, city employees for working ar...Strays is Adult Comedy, Doggie Style

Dog movies are usually heart-warming and delightful, but Strays is a dramatically different breed. This outlandishly vulgar satire is about as far from Marley and Me as Kansas is from Oz, with more F-bombs than any comedy you’ll see for a while. In the hands of Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx, the genre has (literally) been unleashed, as the film follows crass pups wandering the streets, seemingly without a care in the world. Most dog movies begin with a pet getting lost and trying to find their owner, which leads to all sorts of ‘aw’-inducing moments along the way. As they gallop through golden fields, reminisce about their lives and make friends with local strays, you get a fuzzy feeling thinking about your own pets waiting for you at home. If you don’t have a pet, these movies might make you ponder the idea of buying one. Not Strays. Director Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) follows the furry friend formula expertly with a big exception– the Border Terrier prot...Where does San Jose State fit in conference realignment? In a secure place, for now

As two of the Bay Area’s major college football schools scramble for a home following the collapse of the Pac-12, the third sits back in reasonable comfort, watching the chaos unfold. Will San Jose State be OK once the last domino falls from this round of conference realignment?“Absolutely,” athletic director Jeff Konya said. There’s a scenario in which the Spartans are confronted by a dire future. But that moment is several chess moves away and may not ever materialize. Conference realignment is nothing if not fluid, vulnerable to forces unseen and unexpected.“If this were a question in 2014-16, during the acclimation period into the Mountain West,” Konya added, “I wouldn’t feel as strongly.”Since those lean years, the Spartans have made impressive strides on multiple fronts. The football program has two recent bowl appearances (2020 and 2022) under coach Brent Brennan. Men’s basketball just won 20 games under Tim Miles. As Stanford and Cal continue to hope they can land in the Atlantic Coast Conference as the college sports realignment saga continues, one prominent ACC coach is blasting the potential move.Legendary North Carolina women’s soccer coach Anson Dorrance does not want to add the two San Francisco Bay Area schools to the East Coast conference — and wasn’t shy about letting his feelings be known, either.“I want Cal and Stanford to die on the vine,” Dorrance said in an interview with WRAL, a television station in Raleigh. The ACC has reportedly met to consider adding the Cardinal and the Bears, but at least four schools are reportedly not in favor of the expansion move. A potential meeting that was scheduled late on Monday night was subsequently canceled on Tuesday morning. The moves being made in college athletics are mostly centered around football, but would impact other sports, too. That includes women’s soccer, where Dorrance has been the coach of North Carolina since 1979 and Stanford h...Los Altos: A Cal-Med favorite will move into restaurant space vacated by chef Traci Des Jardins
