A four-game win streak came to an end for the Nuggets on Saturday night in Sacramento, where the Kings opened up a 17-point lead in the first half and held on for a 123-117 win. After playing five games in the last seven days, Denver (14-7) has three days off before visiting the Clippers on Wednesday.Back-to-back good fortune was upThe defending champions were one of only three NBA teams with five back-to-backs in the first six weeks of the 2023-24 schedule. It was an unlucky draw for the Nuggets after a short offseason, but they have somehow managed to turn lemons into lemonade for the most part, winning the second game of all four back-to-backs before Sacramento (Utah, Chicago, at Detroit, at Los Angeles). In two of those four, they were without Nikola Jokic during crunch time.It was only a matter of time before that good fortune ran out, and Sacramento was coming off two days of rest. All things considered, it’s impressive that Denver has allowed only 106.6 points per game i...Missing Arizona woman's vehicle found in Pasadena

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – South San Francisco’s packed home bleachers saw its crowd rise in unison to applaud and cheer the hometown team after the final whistle blew on the NorCal 6-A final. Did it matter that Colusa had just routed the Warriors 42-6 in a running clock victory? Hardly. The town, which didn’t even have a varsity team to cheer for two years ago, appreciated a program that won a section title for the first time since 1989, broke the school record for wins, and reached the cusp of state glory. “It meant a lot,” senior Justice Goodman said. “During my freshman year, we had nobody. Now, we had the whole city out here.”South San Francisco coach Kolone Pua and Soblessed Mauia #77 prepare to shake hands with Colusa, winner of the CIF NorCal 6-A high school football championship, Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, in South San Francisco, Calif. NEW DELHI (AP) — Vote counting began Sunday in four Indian states in a test of strength for India’s opposition pitted against the ruling party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of next year’s crucial national vote. Results are expected later in the day.Elections in the four states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana — took place last month. Polling in India is generally done in phases owing to the large population.Vote counting in a fifth state, Mizoram, is expected Monday. The election results of the five states are expected to give an indication of voter mood ahead of the 2024 national elections in which Modi is eyeing a third consecutive term. The Indian National Congress, India’s main opposition party, holds power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, rules Madhya Pradesh, and its regional ally, Mizo National Front, is in power in Mizoram. If the Anaheim Ducks are going to become a consistent Stanley Cup contender again like the Colorado Avalanche, Leo Carlsson is likely to be a big part of it.Carlsson showed why he’s one of the best prospects in the sport Saturday night with a goal, an assist and the lone shootout tally to lead the Ducks past the Avalanche, 4-3. It’s the second straight loss after regulation for the Avs, who fall to 15-6-2 after a weird game where they played better during the parts where they weren’t scoring goals. While the Avs have lost the first two games of this road trip, there’s a bigger concern. Star defenseman Cale Makar did not play in the final 2:57 of regulation or during the overtime period.“He’s dealing with something, so he wasn’t able to go,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said. The first 20 minutes was one of the sloppier periods the Avalanche has played in recent weeks, but Colorado led 3-1 at the intermission. The weird stuff started right from...CIF regional football championship scoreboard: Saturday’s results

FOLSOM — What had been a perfect season for Pittsburg under new head coach Charlie Ramirez, one that included league and section championships and 13 victories, ended on a damp and cool Saturday night at the edge of the Sierra foothills. One of the oldest cliches about the sport of football is it’s a game of inches. For the visitors from the Bay Area, the axiom rung true as they watched Folsom celebrate a Northern California Division 1-A regional championship they thought would be theirs. The home team prevailed 28-25 behind its star quarterback, sophomore Ryder Lyons, who ran for three touchdowns and passed for another.“We knew what they were going to do; they did it,” Ramirez said. “We just shot ourselves in the foot too many times with unnecessary penalties. It was a pretty clean game overall. We forced some turnovers. We did the things we needed to do.“When it came down the end, we couldn’t get off the field when we needed to and we had a c...Latest news
