SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A proposal at the Illinois Capitol would change the way law enforcement handles marijuana during traffic stops. It would stop them from searching cars just because they smell it.Recreational marijuana has been legal in Illinois since 2020. Advocates say since people can have it, they shouldn't necessarily be punished just because an officer smells it in their vehicle.“The mere fact that there may be cannabis inside the vehicle or that somebody inside the vehicle may have the odor of cannabis on their clothing or on their person is not indicative that any criminal activity has occurred,” Ben Ruddell, the director of criminal justice policy at the ACLU of Illinois, said. ST. LOUIS - After reaching his first NBA Finals last season, St. Louis native Jayson Tatum is back in the playoffs and pushing for another chance at a championship. As that journey begins, Tatum also found another way to pay tribute to his hometown. Tatum has teamed up with footwear company Nike to design and release a special pair of Air Jordans. The basketball shoes represent his St. Louis roots in several different ways. The shoes use traces of red, white and river blue similarly to how soccer team CITY SC shows respect to St. Louis. Inside both shoes is a yellow disk design with fleur-de-lis like the one on the city's flag. The tongue of the shoe also has a "Archer Ave" sign, symbolizing Jayson's humble beginnings in St. Louis. The closer had been on the IL due to anxiety since March 30, following poor performances in both Rockies spring training and in three outings for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.“It feels good to have Daniel back,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “The last two weeks have been really positive for Daniel. We’re hoping that he can help, and he will. He’s a big part of our bullpen.”The assumption is Bard will re-assume his closer role.
