He was playing in a cornhole tournament for deaf athletes in Lewiston when he was shot and killed.“It’s been difficult,” his son Andrew Vozzella said. “I’m a first responder in Texas, and we always say this will never happen to us, until it did. Quite frankly, I’m still awaiting to grieve and process.”Steve grew up in Chelsea and graduated from the Beverly School for the Deaf. His son said he’s overwhelmed by all of the support.“The deaf community, the best way to describe it, is we’re one family. We support each other. We’ll be here for each other,” Andrew said. “I did not think this many people would be here. I know my father would love it. He would love what’s going on here to...7 Investigates: Handled With Care? The Bruins notched their best characer win of the young season, scratching back from a two-goal deficit, climbing over some serious in-game adversity and pulling out a 3-2 overtime win over the Florida Panthers at the Garden on Monday.Pavel Zacha scored with 1:24 left in overtime to lift the B’s to a victory that seemed improbable earlier in the night. Linus Ullmark, meanwhile, made 36 saves for the win. After a brutal first period in which they went down 2-0, the B’s found their footing in the second with a goal and then Charlie McAvoy tied it up at 7:20 of the third period off a beautiful rush. Pavel Zacha made a nice touch pass to David Pastrnak, whi had speed going thrugh the neutral zone. Pastrnak sliced from left to right through the offensive zone and sifted a pass to the rushing McAvoy, who flipped his second in as many games past Sergei Bobrovsky. But McAvoy put his team in a hole with a hit to the head on Oliver Ekman-Larson in the head with the puck nowhere clos...Jaylen Brown scores 36 points as Celtics dominate Wizards, start 3-0

As good as the Celtics were last season, they proved to be maddeningly frustrating at certain times. Both in the regular season and playoffs, they routinely lost games they shouldn’t. They made a habit of playing down to inferior opponents.Monday night in Washington, D.C., would have been a prime example. After two exciting, high-profile victories against the Knicks and Heat to start the season, last season’s Celtics may have suffered a letdown against the rebuilding Wizards. Not so much this time.In what may be a sign of the Celtics’ improved maturity, they handled business easily. Jaylen Brown scored 36 points and Jayson Tatum had 33 – both in just three quarters – as the C’s blitzed the Wizards from the opening tip and never looked back in a dominant 126-107 victory that was more lopsided than the final score indicated. The Celtics led 37-11 at one stage in the first quarter, scored 77 points in the first half and led by as many as 37 points late in the third quarter as they had abs...How Andre Drummond can see more consistent playing time for the Chicago Bulls by honing his role in the offense

Andre Drummond is looking to forge a more consistent role with the Chicago Bulls this season.Last season was unpredictable for Drummond. When he was on the court, he gave the Bulls a presence around the rim, finishing second on the team with 6.6 rebounds per game despite averaging less than 13 minutes. But his playing time was rarely consistent.Drummond would go weeks without getting more than six minutes in a game — even sitting out as a healthy scratch for five of seven games in mid-January — then would turn around to log more than 15 minutes the following week. When Drummond exercised his $3.36 million player option for 2023-24 in June, he sat down with coach Billy Donovan to define more specific expectations for this season.“We really took a deep dive into what I can do to help this team on both ends of the court,” Drummond said. “My passing ability, being able to get our guys open when I do have the ball, (being able) to set screens and duck in and ...Evanston teen taken hostage by Hamas returns home

EWISTON, Maine (AP) — Five months before the deadliest mass shooting in Maine’s history, the gunman’s family alerted the sheriff that they were becoming “concerned” about his deteriorating mental health while he had access to firearms, authorities said Monday. After the alert, the Sagadohoc County Sheriff's Office reached out to officials of Robert Card’s Army Reserve unit, which assured deputies that they would speak to Card and make sure he got medical attention, Sheriff Joel Merry said. The family’s concern about Card's mental health dated back to early this year before the sheriff's office was contacted in May, marking the earliest in a string of interactions that police had with the 40-year-old firearms instructor before he marched into a bowling alley and then a bar in Lewiston last Wednesday, killing 18 people and wounding 13 others. He was found two days later with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an intensive search spanning two days that caused shelter-in-place orders and...Mayo Clinic’s latest therapy animal?
