Members of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), a NATO-led peacekeeping mission, were injured during clashes with Serb protesters in northern Kosovo. KFOR said late Monday that after units were deployed to contain violent demonstrations, “several soldiers of the Italian and Hungarian KFOR contingent were the subject of unprovoked attacks and sustained trauma wounds with fractures and burns due to the explosion of incendiary devices.” Tensions are running high in the region. On Friday, the U.S., France, Italy, Germany, and the U.K. issued a joint statement condemning Kosovo’s decision to force access to municipal buildings in northern Kosovo. Doctors say this is the most important virus you’ve never heard of

Doctors say this is the most important virus you’ve never heard of (CNN) — The past winter was a heavy one for respiratory viruses, dominated by surges of RSV, influenza and Covid-19. But just as it was winding down, a little-known virus that causes many of the same symptoms – a lower lung infection, hacking cough, runny nose, sore throat and fever – was just picking up steam.Cases of human metapneumovirus, or HMPV, spiked this spring, according to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s respiratory virus surveillance systems. It filled hospital intensive care units with young children and seniors who are the most vulnerable to these infections. At its peak in mid-March, nearly 11% of tested specimens were positive for HMPV, a number that’s about 36% higher than the average, pre-pandemic seasonal peak of 7% test positivity. Most people who caught it probably didn’t even know they had it, however. Sick people aren’t usually tested for it outside of a hospital or ER. Unlike Covid-19 and the flu, there’s no vaccine...

Orioles finish first third of 2023 season with 5-0 loss to Guardians

Orioles finish first third of 2023 season with 5-0 loss to Guardians There’s an adage in baseball that every team will win and lose a third of its games, leaving the other third as those that will decide their seasons. The Orioles would be positioned well if their first 54 games prove to be that decisive third. Even with Monday’s 5-0 loss to the Cleveland Guardians — one in which center fielder Cedric Mullins exited in the eighth inning with an apparent lower-body injury — Baltimore is off to a 34-20 start, the sixth-best start in franchise history. Each of the five teams they trail reached the postseason and won at least 97 games. Going 54-54 the rest of the way would leave Baltimore with 88 victories, a total that would likely be enough for the organization’s first playoff berth since 2016.In the years since, the Orioles have often challenged that adage, frequently credited to longtime Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda. They won fewer than 54 games in 2018 and 2021, exactly that many in 2019, and played only a ha...

Orioles’ Cedric Mullins exits game vs. Guardians with apparent lower-body injury Cedric Mullins, the Orioles’ center fielder and primary leadoff man, exited Monday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians in the eighth inning with an apparent injury to his lower body.Mullins pulled into first base slowly on a ground ball to shortstop, stutter-stepping into the bag behind Amed Rosario’s throw. He exited the game with a trainer at his side, and Terrin Vavra replaced Mullins in the lineup while Ryan McKenna moved from right field to center.Mullins is hitting .264 with an .839 OPS while appearing in all but one of Baltimore’s first 54 games, missing a contest last week against the New York Yankees for what manager Brandon Hyde said were “personal reasons.”This story will be updated.
