MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico extradited Ovidio Guzmán López, a son of former Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán, to the United States on Friday to face drug trafficking charges, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.“This action is the most recent step in the Justice Department’s effort to attack every aspect of the cartel’s operations,” Garland said. SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was to travel to the far eastern port city of Vladivostok to see Russia’s Pacific fleet, while his official media back home said Saturday that he was “deeply impressed” by a factory producing the most advanced Russian warplanes. Kim’s trip to Russia, highlighted by a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, has sparked Western concerns about an arms alliance in which North Korean munitions fuel Putin’s war in Ukraine and Russian technologies advance the threat posed by Kim’s military nuclear program. After meeting with Putin at Russia’s main spaceport, a location that communicated Kim’s desire for Russian assistance in his efforts to acquire space-based reconnaissance assets and missile technologies, North Korea’s leader reappeared Friday in the far eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur for a visit to a plant producing Russia’s Su-57 fighter jets.Experts have said potential military cooperation betwe...Saskatchewan child advocate says pronoun policy for schools violates rights

REGINA — Saskatchewan’s child advocate has released a report saying the province’s pronoun policy in schools violates rights to gender identity and expression.“The policy clearly discriminates against transgender children who are unable or unwilling to seek parental consent for the use of their preferred name and pronouns,” said Lisa Broda in a 41-page report released Friday.“Children are human beings with their own rights and legally recognized ability to make certain personal decisions in accordance with their maturity and capacity.”She said the policy is also contrary to law or discriminatory. The provincial government announced last month that it is requiring parental consent when children under 16 want to use different names or pronouns at school.A court challenge has been launched against the policy, and the government has said it plans to enshrine it in legislation this fall.Premier Scott Moe said this week he is prepared to use the notwithstanding clause to ...Baby dies at day care in New York City, 3 other children hospitalized

AUSTIN (KXAN) — If one phrase got stuck in the minds of those who closely followed the Ken Paxton impeachment trial, it would have to be this: "There are no coincidences in Austin." The last mention of these words came Friday morning during the House impeachment managers' closing arguments. State Rep. Andrew Murr, the Republican lawmaker from Junction with a signature handlebar mustache, deployed them after claiming prosecutors met the burden of proof through their evidence to support the 16 articles of impeachment facing Paxton. If enough senators ultimately vote to sustain even one of those articles, then they would remove Paxton from office. "Is it a coincidence that Paxton ordered his people to intervene in the Mitte lawsuit when they had already waived intervention?" Murr said in his final remarks Friday. "Is it a coincidence that Nate Paul used the 'midnight opinion' to stop a foreclosure sale one day after the opinion was issued? Is it a coincidence that while discussing the ...Latest news
