Surfer dies after distress call at Humboldt County beach A surfer died Sunday after being pulled from the water at Moonstone Beach, near Trinidad, the Humboldt County sheriff’s office said.Deputies were called at 3:50 p.m. for a surfer in distress. The woman had reportedly become unattached from her surfboard and was “overcome by waves,” the sheriff’s report said. She was pulled unconscious to the shore by another beachgoer, and a Coast Guard helicopter took her to a hospital in Eureka.
