Violent crime increased this year in Fairfax County, Virginia, according to a newly released report. The new report, released by Fairfax County Police in coordination with the Major Cities Chiefs Association, tracked violent crimes such as homicide, rape and robbery in 2023.Fairfax County ranked low with an 8.7% increase in violent crimes — larger than similarly sized counties in our region like Prince George’s County and Montgomery County. MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Because of the Dallas Cowboys’ struggles on the road, it appears likely they’ll have to play another big game away from AT&T Stadium — in the playoffs.Dallas fell to 3-5 in away games, failing to hold a one-point lead in the final 3 1/2 minutes and losing 22-20 to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.Three of the Cowboys’ road losses have come against teams that have secured playoff spots. Dallas (10-5) locked up its playoff berth last week, but it will need some help from Philadelphia to win the NFC East. The Eagles can move a game ahead of the Cowboys by beating the New York Giants on Christmas Day.“We’ve got to play better than we did today,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “You have to play above it on the road, and road warriors we will be.”Dallas has lost at San Francisco, Philadelphia, Buffalo and Arizona. The Cowboys at least played much better than they did in their 32-10 loss to the Bills a week earlier. CHICAGO (AP) — Greg Dortch had two receptions for 45 yards for Arizona, and he was the top wide receiver in the game. The wide receivers for the Cardinals and Chicago Bears combined for nine catches for 98 yards on Sunday.Kyler Murray definitely could have used Marvin Harrison Jr. Same for Justin Fields.Arizona and Chicago are two possibilities for Harrison if the star receiver decides to make himself eligible for the NFL draft after another impressive season at Ohio State. The Bears (6-9) could have two selections in the top 10, including No. 1 overall, and the Cardinals (3-12) look as if they will be going somewhere in the top five. The silky smooth Harrison could help several teams, but it was easy to see why each team might be interested after Chicago’s 27-16 win.Asked about his concern over the lack of production from Arizona’s wide receivers, first-year coach Jonathan Gannon pointed to the team’s entire offense. The Cardinals trailed 21-0 midway through the se...Mariners agree to $24 million, 2-year contract with catcher Mitch Garver, AP source says

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — First, an ankle injury. Next, a concussion. Now, an injured shoulder. The durable Trevor Lawrence keeps getting banged up, and it’s costing the Jacksonville Jaguars.Lawrence, who cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol just in time to play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ended up leaving in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury as the Jaguars lost 30-12.Lawrence was ineffective before he got hurt, throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble as Jacksonville fell behind 30-0 on the way to its fourth straight loss. The third-year quarterback, who has never missed a game, said was hurt diving for a first down on a fourth-play late in the third quarter during Jacksonville’s first scoring drive.“Reached for the first down and got hit out of bounds and just landed on it,” Lawrence said. “When I landed, I knew something was off. RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — FIFA warned Brazil on Sunday it could suspend its national teams and clubs from international competitions if an intervention by its soccer body leads to the election of a new president in January. FIFA said in a letter to a Brazilian soccer executive that the country’s soccer body CBF could face suspension if it does not heed its call to wait and instead holds a swift election to replace Ednaldo Rodrigues as president regardless. The document was obtained by The Associated Press. A Rio de Janeiro court removed Rodrigues and all his appointees at CBF from office on Dec. 7 due to irregularities in his election last year. Brazil’s two highest courts upheld that ruling last week.Soccer’s governing body FIFA historically rejects government and third-party interference in its member associations, which ultimately could leave five-time World Cup winners Brazil out of major competitions until the crisis is solved. The Rio court ruling also named José Perdiz...“Todos fuimos atacados”: al menos 68 muertos en ofensiva israelí en el centro de Gaza
