Keeler: Why did Broncos take off? QB Russell Wilson let his inner Aaron Gordon fly. Brock Huard, Seattle as Starbucks and the Space Needle, knows Russell Wilson better than most. And he’s seen this version before.“Russ was immensely humbled last year and is buying into the system that first elevated his career in Seattle,” the Fox Sports football analyst and longtime radio host in the Pacific Northwest told me Thursday.“Not a lot of nine-time Pro Bowlers would check their ego at the door and revert back to a system that is more about others than their own stats. He is. And it’s because he knows the only way to build back his Hall-of-Fame resume is to get back to winning games.”Amen. Scoreboard first. Me second.Need me to set up our bell cow? No problemo, coach. Need me to roll up the sleeves and grind? Got it. Need me out of the way? All good. Need me to make magic late in the game? Awesome, won’t let you down. Whatever it takes.Scoreboard first. Me second.Big Russ has always tried to sound like Aaron Gordon, even if half of it left yo...

Live updates | Gaza loses communications due to lack of fuel. Israel signals forces may move south A dire lack of fuel in the Gaza Strip shut down all internet and phone networks Thursday, the main Palestinian telecom provider said, effectively cutting off the besieged territory from the outside world. In a signal that Israel’s ground invasion could soon expand to the south, Palestinians in parts of southern Gaza said they received evacuation notices Thursday. Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million people are crowded into the south, including hundreds of thousands who heeded Israel’s calls to evacuate the north to get out of the way of its offensive. Nearly every single person in the Gaza Strip doesn’t have enough food, and more than two out of every three people don’t have clean drinking water, the United Nations said Thursday. Residents say bread is scarce and supermarket shelves are bare. Central electricity and running water have been out for weeks. At least 11,470 Palestinians — two-thirds of them women and minors — have been killed since the war began, according to Palestinian health au...

Cryer has 18 points to lead No. 6 Houston to 65-49 victory over Towson at the Charleston Classic CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — LJ Cryer scored 18 points and No. 6 Houston used a 19-4 run in the first half to take control on the way to a 65-49 victory over Towson on Thursday night to advance in the Charleston Classic. Cryer is among several new faces for a program that’s still finding its rhythm, according to coach Kelvin Sampson. “It’s still so early in the season, I don’t think anybody’s looking at their teams as finished products,” he said after his team opened 4-0 for a fourth straight season. Sampson’s team lost a pair of NBA first-rounders in Jerace Walker, the No. 8 pick in the draft, and Marcus Sasser, who was taken 25th. He acknowledges that despite his team’s strong start, there’s a lot more that must be worked on before the season gets serious. “We’re all just searching and trying to figure out how to fix this, how to fix that,” Sampson said. The Cougars next take on Utah, which beat Wake Forest 77-70 in the opening round. The...

Prince George’s Co. Council passes flurry of bills as 2023 winds down A new council that began the year with ambition and promises to do big things started winding down 2023 by passing a flurry of legislation this week in Prince George’s County, Maryland.Much of the legislation passed unanimously, as the county council spent months amending and improving bills before the end of the year. One bill prevents landlords from asking prospective tenants the same question that many employers are no longer allowed to ask job seekers: do they have a criminal record? The Returning Citizens Fair Chance to Housing Act, with some exceptions, passed easily on Tuesday.“You will hear the majority of them say when they are being released, ‘I’m going home,’ which is normally not true. They don’t have a home. They have been incarcerated for a long period of time,” said Robin Bell, who works with returning citizens and spoke in favor of the bill. “So they’re going to someone else’s home, which creates a problem.”She said letting them get established...
