Autopsy returns on man who died at Bennington PD

BENNINGTON, Vt. (NEWS10) -- The Chief Medical Examiner's Office has completed its autopsy regarding Darrel Jones, who died while in custody at the Bennington Police Department on March 23. Police say Jones died of an accident caused by a mix of drug intoxication, including fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine. An investigation by the Vermont State Police concluded Jones had drugs concealed in his person when he was taken into custody by the Bennington Police Department. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A former corporal with the North County Police Cooperative faces one charge of kidnapping and two counts of assault. James Sims was charged Monday following an investigation by the department. He’s accused of committing the crimes while serving as an officer.“We’re not going to sweep anything under the rug,” said Major Ron Martin with the North County Police Cooperative.He said the department investigated as soon as it was made aware of allegations stemming from two separate incidents.Sims is accused of coming to the aid of his brother, who was involved in a dispute with an individual in November. ST. LOUIS – An off-duty Berkeley police officer shot a man Monday afternoon outside a bar in north St. Louis City.According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened just before 4:50 p.m. outside the Speakeasy Bar, located in the 5500 block of West Florissant Avenue, in the Walnut Park East neighborhood.The 62-year-old off-duty officer was inside the bar when he heard a loud crash outside the building. A snowmobiler who got lost on Vail Pass Sunday afternoon was rescued in an interagency effort, according to a release from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.“On May 14 at approximately 2:25 pm the Vail Communications Center received a call from the friend of a snowmobiler who was ‘lost in a bad way’ on Vail Pass,” the release states. “The snowmobiler only had 3% of their cell phone battery left when they were able to utilize the ‘share my location’ function with their friend. The friend passed that location along to Vail Mountain Rescue in addition to information that the snowmobile being used, and the trailer to haul it was rented in Denver.”Using the location they were provided, the rescue group searched for the snowmobiler in the Resolution Mountain area as additional resources were requested through Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Search and Rescue, Colorado’s State Search and Rescue Coordinator Resource as well as Summit County Rescue Group, including a Flight for Life...CU Boulder ranked top university in the state, according to CWUR global rankings

A cannabis dispensary in West Hollywood was broken into early Tuesday, with theives apparently using a crowbar to smash through a window of the Sunset Strip storefront.The incident was reported around 4:50 a.m. at Urbn Leaf West Hollywood Cannabis Dispensary, located at 8477 W. Sunset Blvd.Preliminary reports from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicated that 12 males wearing ski masks broke into the store using a crowbar and ran away with multiple bags of weed.It is unclear, however, how much exactly was taken.The situation is not unique. A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over the weekend after allegedly stabbing another man with a butcher knife in Culver City, police said Tuesday.The incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. Sunday in the area of Slauson Avenue and Buckingham Parkway, according to the Culver City Police Department.The victim told responding officers that he was walking on Buckingham when the suspect came up to him while wearing a ski mask and gloves.The assailant walked behind him and “forcibly removed his backpack,” police detailed in a news release.The victim resisted and the suspect allegedly stabbed him several times with a large butcher knife.The victim suffered multiple lacerations to his back and arm and he was taken to a hospital, police said.The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was arrested and booked.No further details about the incident have been released.Latest news
