LONDON — A Labour government would depart from the government’s AI strategy and bring in stronger regulation, Labour Leader Keir Starmer said on Tuesday. The government outlined a “pro-innovation” approach to AI regulation in March, which declined to set up a standalone AI regulator and instead puts responsibility for overseeing the technology in the hands of existing regulators. But speaking at London Tech Week on Tuesday morning, Starmer said a Labour government would introduce “an overarching regulatory framework” that would be “stronger” than the government’s approach. “We are nowhere near where we need to be on the question of regulation,” he said. The sector would welcome the certainty greater regulation would provide, he added.Starmer said he was struck by the pace of development in AI, describing how his 14-year old son gives him a “masterclass” on ChatGPT everyday. He said it could have a transformative impact, helping the NHS diagnose illnesses and enabling public ...Regular service resumes after Green Line trolley derails near Packard’s Corner

Speaking at the scene, MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng said roughly 30 people were on the train at the time of the derailment. There were no injuries reported. After some showers and storms rolled through last night, most of the rain tapers off by the morning commute, however it’ll be a damp start with lots of clouds and areas of fog. It’s a mild and muggy start to the day too with temps in the 60s. Improvements to the clouds and fog are slow through mid morning, but I do expect some breaks of sun to develop, especially inland today, where temps jump well into the 70s. Along the coast, especially near Boston, points north, clouds are tough to break and with an onshore flow, highs hold in the 60s to near 70. Large portions of the day are dry, but a few hit or miss showers will pop up mid to late afternoon. Tomorrow, the highest risk of storms is mid to late afternoon across central Mass and late-day/evening across eastern Mass. A few of those storms could be strong too with gusty winds and hail. Thursday, the shower chance is limited to isolated in the afternoon, then becomes more widespread Friday afternoon and Saturday. With ...Police warn of delays as they investigate fatal crash on I-93 south in Medford

Published Sun, 01 Dec 2024 03:17:16 GMT
The latest indictment of former President Donald Trump could have a boomerang effect on President Biden if voters feel the case is just an attempt to stop Trump from running. If the latest charges against Trump start to fall apart, it will throw the spotlight back on Democrats and Biden, and confirm what half the country believes – that this is a politically motivated prosecution.Trump, about to turn 77, is still in a precarious position heading into 2024, with possible indictments related to Jan. 6 and Georgia still to go. Just from a stamina point of view, it will be tough for Trump to survive the heat. But polls conducted after the 37-count indictment on classified documents was released show the former president is still the frontrunner in the GOP race. A clear majority of Republican primary voters – 81% – say they believe the indictment for illegally keeping secret documents and lying about it is politically motivated. That’s a clear indication that the charges won’t yet hurt Trum...Russian missile attack on Zelenskyy’s hometown kills at least 10; dozens wounded
