The divorce between Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas became a federal case Thursday. The “Game of Thrones” star has filed a petition against the “Cake by the Ocean” singer for the return of their two young children to the U.K.Turner, 27, claims in court documents filed Thursday in the Southern District of New York that the couple’s kids have been wrongfully retained in New York City since Sept. 20 from England, which she described as “their habitual residence.”The actress’ lawsuit was brought under the 1980 Hague Convention, which established civil proceedings for kids wrongly removed from their home country, as well as the U.S. International Child Abduction Remedies Act.The suit was filed in Manhattan federal court as Turner’s kids are currently located in Manhattan; Jonas has a condo in Nolita. The filing states that the pair made the United Kingdom their permanent home in April to have the children attend school in England. According to the lawsuit, the family moved into a long-term ren...Analysis: Officially eliminated from playoffs, Red Sox couldn’t overcome their obvious flaws

In the end, the Red Sox were exactly who we thought they were.Entering the season, the prevailing opinion among outside observers was the Red Sox were an average club who might show improvement from 2022’s last place showing, but ultimately one that wasn’t good enough to take a meaningful leap towards contention. Now officially eliminated from playoff contention and trending towards a 79-83 finish, the Red Sox have unfortunately proven all their doubters right. What went wrong? The Red Sox did make meaningful progress in a number of key areas, but the club was ultimately undone by several fatal flaws, many of which were apparent to anyone paying attention as early as this past winter.Inadequate starting pitchingBy allowing Nathan Eovaldi, Michael Wacha and Rich Hill to walk, the Red Sox took a calculated risk that their young starters would be capable of stepping up to fill the void. That bet did not pay off.His most recent start aside, Brayan Bello has been everything the...5 easy school night dinners to combat the chaos

Gretchen McKay | (TNS) Pittsburgh Post-GazetteHaving to make dinner night after night can be a drag any time of year, but it can feel even more like a chore in September if you have kids in school. After the (relatively) relaxed days of summer, it can take a while to get back into the rhythm, routine and energy of a school year. In addition to making sure everyone gets fed, evenings bring homework, packing book bags and lunches, putting yet another load of laundry into the washer and laying out clothes for the next morning.Between sporting events, teacher conferences, dance or music lessons and other after-school events, the weekly calendar can quickly fill up. Add parents’ jobs to the mix, it all can feel just so … chaotic. But with a little planning, it’s possible to get a nutritious family meal on the table, at least some of the time, while also pinching your pennies. It’s even better if you can get family members to help with the chopping, stirring, plating...Chicago officials ink nearly $30M contract with security firm to move migrants to winterized camps

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago officials have signed a nearly $30 million contract with a private security firm to relocate migrants seeking asylum from police stations and the city’s two airports to winterized camps with massive tents before cold weather arrives, following the lead of New York City’s use of communal tents for migrants.GardaWorld Federal Services and a subsidiary sealed the one-year $29.4 million deal with Chicago on Sept. 12. That was less than a week after Mayor Brandon Johnson announced plans to move about 1,600 migrants to a network of newly erected tent cities across the city. He said the relocations will occur “before the weather begins to shift and change.”Many of those migrants have been living temporarily inside Chicago police stations or at O’Hare or Midway airports. The contract with GardaWorld states that its purpose is “to allow the City to purchase from the State Contract temporary housing solutions and related services … to provide critical service...Alexia Putellas says Spain’s women’s team has reached ‘before and after’ point in fight for equality

OTTAWA — A Canadian man who was held in China for nearly three years is calling on governments around the world to co-ordinate sanctions and travel bans on states that arrest foreigners for political reasons.“Arbitrary detention creates small tears in the fabric of international law through which innocent people are dragged into darkness,” Michael Kovrig said Wednesday at a United Nations forum convened by the federal Liberal government.“Without co-ordinated advocacy, pressure and negotiation, the sad reality is that I might still be sitting in that cell right now. Many other people, too many, are still trapped in similar political nightmares.”Kovrig said support from Canadian consular officials and the public buoyed him during his detention in China, where he and fellow Canadian Michael Spavor were arrested in December 2018.China was widely viewed to have detained the men in retaliation for arrest of Chinese tech executive Meng Wanzhou days earlier at the Va...Canada has supporting role to help Haiti, but ‘there is no solution from outside’: PM

NEW YORK — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would not say Thursday whether Canada will take part in a Kenya-led multinational security mission in Haiti that the United Nations is under mounting U.S. pressure to authorize. The question of how best to help dominated Trudeau’s final day at the UN General Assembly, where President Joe Biden pleaded Tuesday for urgent help for the violence and poverty-racked Caribbean nation. Media reports suggest a request for approval for a security mission could arrive at the UN Security Council as early as next week, but Trudeau assiduously avoided any hint that Canada would play a role.“Let’s be very clear that Canada is one of the countries — if not the country — that has been leaning in most substantively and standing up for the Haitian people,” he told a news conference. That includes an additional $80 million for the Haitian police on top of $100 million announced back in March, as well as sanctions against three more member...Trump says he always had autoworkers’ backs. LANSING, Mich. (AP) — When former President Donald Trump visits Detroit next week, he’ll be looking to blunt criticisms from a United Auto Workers union leadership that has said a second term for him would be a “disaster” for workers.Trump will bypass the second Republican presidential debate on Sept. 27 to instead visit striking autoworkers in Michigan, where he has looked to position himself as an ally of blue-collar workers by promising to raise wages and protect jobs if elected to a second term. But union leaders say Trump’s record in the White House speaks for itself. Union leaders have said his first term was far from worker-friendly, citing unfavorable rulings from the nation’s top labor board and the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as unfulfilled promises of automotive jobs. While the United Auto Workers union has withheld an endorsement in the 2024 presidential race, its leadership has repeatedly rebuffed Trump.Nevertheless, Trump plans to speak directly to a room of...1 killed, multiple people hurt as bus carrying children crashes on New York highway
