Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 06:45:05 GMT

The Broncos are not done yet.Denver won two straight games before the bye week, leading to the decision to stand pat at the trade deadline and attempt to make a postseason push in the second half. The Broncos have a 5% chance of making the playoffs, according to the New York Times, so the odds are slim.Since Denver (3-5) plans to fight until the bitter end, let’s try to predict how the rest of the season could play out.at Buffalo Bills (Nov. 13)Let’s get wild. The Broncos are motivated, and the week off shouldn’t take away that fire. Buffalo is 2-2 in its last four games, while each matchup has been decided by six points or fewer. The Bills have not been the best at defending the run, allowing 122 yards per game. Denver will pound the football, and the defense will force Bills quarterback Josh Allen to throw a couple of interceptions. Prediction: Winvs. Minnesota Vikings (Nov. 19)The Vikings have won three straight after starting the season at 1-4. But they recently lost quarterback...

Nuggets Journal: “Puppy lord” Kentavious Caldwell-Pope sets NBA All-Defensive team goal, with inspiration from Reggie Jackson

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 06:45:05 GMT

An awards campaign has already been launched two weeks into the Nuggets’ 2023-24 season, but its true origins are as organic as a one-on-one pickup basketball game. The inspiration dates back to February 2015.Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was no longer a rookie when Reggie Jackson joined the Pistons at the trade deadline, but the second-year guard was still building his reputation. Jackson, three years older than KCP, faced him in one-on-one shortly after the trade.“I think I can play ones pretty well,” Jackson told The Denver Post. “I haven’t met too many guys that can stay in front of me.”But Caldwell-Pope could. Jackson tried three different moves and couldn’t score on him. “He cut me off three straight times,” Jackson recalled. “I was like, ‘You’ve gotta be fouling. There’s gotta be something you’re doing that’s illegal.’ I’ve got quite a few moves. I’ve got a lot of stuff in my bag, and he was on everything. Hea...

Why Rockies’ Brenton Doyle is the best defensive center fielder in team history

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 06:45:05 GMT

Rookie Brenton Doyle is the best defensive center fielder in Rockies history. Period. At least for one season. The statistics say so. So does the eye test.Doyle should win a National League Gold Glove when the awards are announced Sunday night. If he does not, the managers and coaches who cast votes weren’t paying attention or didn’t do their homework.“Cory (Sullivan) and I have already said he’s the best center fielder in Rox history,” said Ryan Spilborghs. “Go back to the tape. We said it within watching him for a week.”The duo knows what it’s talking about. Spilborghs and Sullivan, the Rockies’ TV analysts, both roamed the wide-open spaces of Coors Field. Spilborghs started 89 games in center, from 2005 to ’11. Sullivan started 183 games, from 2005 to ’08.Doyle’s numbers were off the charts. He led all major league players with a 24.5 Ultimate Zone Rating (UZR), more than 10 points higher than the next closest player...

Opinion: I dedicated my life to the progressive movement. The Left’s anti-Zionism left me behind

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 06:45:05 GMT

Every week we begin our staff meeting sharing our highs and lows. They can be personal or professional, anything from the anticipation of Taylor Swift’s new album or the heartache of having a parent in the hospital. I look forward to this chance to connect with my teammates on a personal level before we dive into the work.So when my turn came, I allowed myself to be vulnerable, to really open up about how much I have been struggling since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, and my heartbreak over innocent lives being taken on both sides.I also shared how I felt alienated as an American Jew in the progressive movement at this moment. How aside from the Jewish people, everyone else seems to have moved on from the horrific events that precipitated this war — the rape and murder of Jewish women at a music festival, the beheading of Jewish babies, and the hundreds of people still held hostage by Hamas in Gaza. Instead of being given the space to grieve, we have had to use ...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Inside the White House Situation Room, new House Speaker Mike Johnson made clear to Biden administration officials his demands when it came to foreign assistance: Aid to Israel for its war against Hamas would have to be separated out from support for Ukraine, defending itself from a Russian invasion now more than 20 months long.Immediately, Johnson faced pushback, according to people with knowledge of the Oct. 26 briefing. Democratic lawmakers in attendance, as well as national security adviser Jake Sullivan and White House budget director Shalanda Young — spelled out to Johnson their deep opposition to splitting up the aid, said the people, who were granted anonymity to discuss a private meeting. Even some House Republicans in the room signaled they disagreed with the new speaker’s stance. “He was listening to a degree, but he was also bringing forth many of the MAGA Republican viewpoints and not from a perspective of bringing Congress together to move us fo...

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Afghans fleeing Pakistan to avoid arrest and deportation are sleeping in the open, without proper shelter, food, drinking water and toilets once they cross the border to their homeland, aid agencies said Sunday.Hundreds of thousands of Afghans have left Pakistan in recent weeks as authorities pursue foreigners they say are in the country illegally, going door-to-door to check migrants’ documentation. Pakistan set Oct.31 as a deadline to leave the country or else they’d be arrested as part of a new anti-migrant crackdown.Afghans leave Pakistan from two main border crossings, Torkham and Chaman. The Taliban have set up camps on the other side for people to stay in while they wait to be moved to their place of origin in Afghanistan. Aid agencies said Torkham has no proper shelter. There is limited access to drinking water, no heating source other than open fires, no lighting, and no toilets. There is open defecation and poor hygiene. U.N. agencies and aid groups ...
